Objective

A major US operator implemented Momentum AI's BullsEye dart diagnostic system to obtain clear, real-time feedback on dart seating and sleeve shifting. Traditional confirmation methods, like tagging with wireline are expensive and result in significant non-productive time (NPT). The BullsEye system employs ultra-high-frequency pressure sensors positioned at the surface to detect minute pressure changes when darts seat and shift sleeves. Furthermore, the system utilizes pressure waves generated during seating and shifting to identify the specific sleeve in which the dart has landed.

Results

The operator encountered issues in 2 of the 14 stages. In 12 of the 14 stages, Momentum AI rapidly confirmed dart seating and shifting depths in real-time.

In one stage, the BullsEye system did not detect a seat and shift signature. Using the pressure waves generated when pumps are shut down, Momentum determined that the dart had landed at the previous sleeve. The operator promptly deployed a backup dart, which seated and shifted the correct sleeve.

In another stage, the BullsEye system detected that the dart was stuck in the wellhead. The operator successfully freed the dart from the wellhead and completed the seating and shifting of the correct sleeve without further complications.
